West Cliff Drive – Santa Cruz, California – November 10, 2011
This Black Phoebe was flying from rock to rock on the cliff face. I couldn’t get very close, and this is the only photo I got that turned out at all. It is a bit soft. Nikon D80, Tamron 200-500 zoom at 500mm, ISO 200, f/6.3, 1/500 sec, tripod

Bangor City Forest – Bangor, Maine – July 19, 2008
I think this is a lifer sighting for me. The photo is pretty clear, but I wish I could have gotten much closer.

Carmel, Maine – July 12, 2008
This Eastern Phoebe posed for me. I don’t remember where I took the photo. It was probably near my daughter’s house. There is a lot of wooded area bordering their property. My zoom lens was maxed out.

Santa Cruz Campground – California – March 30, 2008
This bird was found between my bungalow and the marsh. I was not using a tripod, so I didn’t get a very crisp shot.

Chandelier Tree – Leggett, California – July 16, 2007
On our way home from our California trip, we stopped by the Chandelier Tree. It is a large redwood that you can drive your car through. At the sight there is a gift shop and behind one of the buildings I found this Black Phoebe nest. I thought it a good opportunity to photograph the type of nest this bird builds. It is located on a ledge under the eaves of the building.

Sacramento National Wildlife – Refuge – Willows, California – July 10, 2007
I had trouble IDing this particular bird. Black Phoebes I have seen are usually black, whereas this bird looks brown. I’m guessing it is a juvenile bird. I’ll post this photo on birdpix and see if anyone disagrees with my ID.

This photo was taken for documentation purposes. It was a lifer sighting for me. The bird is not singing. It was very hot and I’m pretty sure the bird is panting. We saw many of this species, but didn’t have a chance to get a good photo.
Nikon D80, Tamron 200-500 zoom at 500 mm, 1/200 sec, Manfrotto tripod or used the car window frame for stability

Rio del Mar, California – April 3, 2007
This is a lifer for me. I saw one a couple times right next to our Santa Cruz bungalow, but I didn’t have my camera out. This bird flew down from the bushes to a fence right next to a stream. The stream is at the south end of the Seacliff Beach State Park and next to the Rio del Mar parking lot. Nikon D80, Tamron 200-500 zoom at 490mm, 1/100 sec, Manfrotto tripod
