I lost a few recent photos here, but I’ll re-post them on the new blog. I’m using a new WordPress theme and organizing my photos in a different way. Right now I’m trying to put up about 1500 photos on the new blog, and trying to figure out how to not only share photos but the information that explains the situation in which the photo was taken.

If I were smart I would just start posting new photos on the new blog, but I’m not smart. I always do things the hard way. I won’t be deleting this blog address in case the new blog doesn’t meet my expectations. I wasn’t going to let you know how to access the new blog until I was pretty much finished, but this is going to take awhile so if you want to suffer through the construction project, feel free to check it out. I’ll be working on past photos first, and then I’ll start posting new stuff.

Present blog is at – akabirdnerd.com/birds

New blog is at – akabirdnerd.com

Last night I was taking a look at a new blog theme and it crashed my blog and made my 5 years worth of work unreachable. I feared the worst, but worked for many hours backing up my other blogs that were still working before trying to restore AKA Bird Nerd. I was not successful, so I went on to my server and restored my last saved data backup. That worked, but it put me back to May 2012 and photo 1032 or something like that. It could have been much much worse. New Years resolution – back up the system more regularly.

I have a New Years surprise for those who frequent my blog. I’m working hard on it, and I’ll give you the news soon!

I have a lot of new photos to post, so please be patient with me.

Well, this is it – the last photo of 2011. It is fitting that the last 2011 photo should be this particular species. Since I live on the water in Washington, this is the bird I see most often. I love to watch them pick up clams and hover 20-30 feet over the rocky beach and drop the clam to break it open. This bird here at the park is looking for a handout.

December 16, 2011

I guess I got a little out of order and posted Dec 21 photos before these I took on Dec 16. No biggie. However, it is a big deal that I am very close to being finished with 2011 photos and moving to the new year. Yeah, I know it’s May. It was a lot of fun taking these photos of the American Wigeons that were at one of the ponds at Carrie Blake Park. I got so carried away I’ll have to post them in two sets. I then have one more photo to share and then that will wrap up 2011 photos.

I think this first set came out pretty good. What do you think?
