We occasionally see a Brewer’s Blackbird up in Washington. I’ve seen a couple in parking lots. Down in Oregon and California these birds are everywhere. There were many at every rest stop on the way down to Santa Cruz.

After breakfast on the Capitola Wharf, we went back to the bungalow to drop off my Dad. I found this mockingbird on a wire on the campground. It was very cooperative to allow me to get a few photos.

Here is another two shots of this bird. Photos were taken near the end of the wharf as the birds swam below.

At a glance you may think this bird looks exactly like a bird I posted earlier – the Clark’s Grebe. However, look at the eye position. It is located in the black of the head. The Clark’s Grebe’s eye is just below the black. A subtle difference, but not the only one. The bill is also slightly different.

We had breakfast on the Capitola wharf before heading out to do some birding. I had my gear with me so I took this photo looking toward Santa Cruz. The dots in the water are surfers, not birds.

After breakfast I started taking some photos of the birds near the wharf.
