A couple of White-crowned Sparrows came over for a visit while we were photographing water birds in the lagoon. I couldn’t resist the opportunity. The second photo was taken with my Nikon D80.

This gull was begging me to take its photo. Who as I to resist a potential budding star.

Here are a couple of shots of a juvenile male of the species. Notice just a little bit of the pink colored under-wing coverts sticking out.

Brewer’s Blackbird – Euphagus cyanocephalus

When you go to Moss Landing you usually pull over as soon as you enter the state park to check out the bay and lagoon on each side of the road. While parked, this female Brewer’s Blackbird hopped right up to the car. While not as pretty as the dark black of the male, this particular bird had a lot of class.

There are a lot of juvenile song birds visiting my feeders lately. Here is a young Song Sparrow. The fine streaking on the flanks and overall buffy color of the juvenile’s can lead to some confusion in identifying them.

I have better photos of this species, but nevertheless, this is what I got on this day. It is always fun to see this bird. They are so graceful.

White Pelican – Pelecanus erythrorhynchos

This pelican was swimming in the lagoon, but unfortunately it was way out there. I digiscoped these photos. You often see Brown Pelicans in this area, but this is the first time I’ve seen a White Pelican.

As yet, I have not been able to get anywhere close to this species. These digiscoped photos were taken at the extent of my scope and camera abilities. Unfortunately, when shooting at such a distance there is no chance to get a sharp image. One day…

This bird was found between my bungalow and the marsh. I was not using a tripod, so I didn’t get a very crisp shot.
