This Eastern Phoebe was going after insects under the eaves of my house. Pretty soon these guys won’t be around once we get a little deeper into fall. This photo is kind of strange because all of my camera data for this shot was 250! Weird….

This little beauty showed up at my back deck while I was eating dinner this evening. I was quite surprised and fortunately had my camera sitting at the table as I ate. I hastily took some quick shots before she and her companion flew away. This was the best one of the bunch. It is weird to see warbler’s around my feeder’s when I’m so used to seeing them flitting around in trees and bushes after insects. I actually witnessed this individual try to eat some sunflower seed on my deck.

Though I have seen plenty of Downy’s this summer, Hairy’s have been almost absent from my back yard. It was nice to see this handsome fellow stop by this afternoon and strike a nice pose for me.

This Turkey Vulture flew over my house recently. This is the time of year that raptors start migrating in force, including vultures such as this. This is by no means an excellent photograph, but it is sufficient for identification. Note the characteristic two toned underwing of the species. This particular individual appeared to be a juvenile or immature bird as it did not have the bright red head of an adult.

Like the bird nerd, I have also been too busy to post anything on the blog. There is so much work to be done with a new little one around that I just haven’t had much of a break. While I have a rare free moment, I thought I’d toss up a photo that I took recently in my back yard.

My daughter delivered a HEALTHY 9 pound 11 ounce 22 inch boy – Ezra David Weigelt this morning. I’m now a grandfather X’s 2. That’s one stress maker down and two more to go – moving my Dad up to Washington this month and the beginning of school. As a teacher, the start of school is always a busy time – and this year I’m faced with many technical challenges and budget shortfalls in my computer lab.
Again, I’m sorry I’ve been ignoring the blog. If it was just a matter of posting some photos it would be no big deal, but I haven’t processed the photos yet. I’m still determined to get back on track as soon as possible.
Congratulations Shawn and Malia – a new birder born into this world!
