Carrie Blake Park, Sequim, Washington
The American Wigeon is a truly beautiful duck. The males have a very pale forehead with a beautiful green iridescent stripe through the eye. The females are, not surprisingly, more plain in appearance but still have warm, rich colors and a striking blue-gray bill with a black tip. This female above was taking a nap!

Carrie Blake Park, Sequim, Washington
We found a nice little park on a recent visit to Sequim, Washington, that proved to be a gold mine for ducks. There were several species represented including American Wigeons, a Eurasian Wigeon (a lifer), Mallards, a Hooded Merganser, and Gadwall’s such as this one. We were able to get very close but the light did not last for very long late in the day. This was the first time I had seen a male Gadwall and I was very excited. Unfortunately, this was the best I could do for a photograph.

This photo was taken for ID and record purposes. I found this Creeper on the loop trail that is behind the Bird’s Acre facility.
The lighting was poor and I was shooting at 800 ASA which tends to be a bit grainy.

I found this thrush on the loop trail behind the bird refuge, but I haven’t been able to ID it. The lighting was very poor, so these are good photos. I took them for documentation purposes.

I’m always on the lookout for a nice photo – bird or no bird. This was taken at the raptor refuge place that Shawn and Malia used to frequent when they lived in Carmel. I think it is on the road that goes from Bangor to Bar Harbor.
The refuge has a nice loop trail behind the buildings, so I stopped to take this photo while looking for birds.
