I’m not sure how I passed over this profile shot of a gorgeous Red-tail.  This bird was being displayed by an animal handler at Northwest Trek.  I do not know if it has suffered an injury in the past or whether it is falconry trained.  It is a beautiful bird nonetheless, and gave me a nice pose.

Olympic Game Farm

On February 15, 2010 my wife and I in one car and our grandchildren and their parents in another, visited the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim, Washington. It is one of those attractions where you drive your vehicle among the animals and stay in your car. With the exception of the domestic peacock, I’ve already posted any bird photos from this day. Most of the photos in this posting are mammals. I’m going to put all my photos in this post and get it over with, since AKA Bird Nerd is a blog primarily for our avian friends. Those who are not interested in these can simply skip on to the next bird post.

Most photos were taken with my Nikon D80 and Tamron 200-500 zoom with the camera resting on the car window frame. Some photos were shot with a Nikon 55-200 zoom.

Here are a couple photos of this beautiful hawk. The photo was actually taken in 2010 even though the top one says 2009. A slight mistake on my part because I had these files in a December folder. The photos were take with my Nikon D80 and Tamron 200-500 zoom – on a tripod of course. My hands are just too shaky and weak to hand hold unless shooting upward at a flying bird.

Shawn posted this same bird a while back – http://akabirdnerd.com/birds/?p=8012

Here is a second photo with a right side head profile:

Black-capped Chickadee – Poecile atricapilla

I did some city birding recently and Snake Lake in Tacoma was the first stop.  Though we sighted a good variety of bird species, the trail is heavily wooded and lighting was poor.  These shots of a tame little chickadee were the best I could do.
