A Little Blog Cleaning For 2012
A new year in well underway, and I’m into my 4th month of retirement and I thought it might be good to do a little house cleaning here at AKA Bird Nerd.
I started this blog as an experiment. I had been designing websites for several years, but I wanted to see what all this blog buzz was about. I’m now a true blog convert, and I think it’s time to go strictly with the blog rather than try to tie it into my bird website (designed as flash movies). Creating the flash website is so much more work. I haven’t updated anything over there for months (maybe years) and it’s time to let it go.
I will be editing the blog to carve out any references to the non-blog part of my website, at least as far as photos are concerned. I will continue to support things like bird puzzles that work under a Flash engine and other things that are best presented within a traditional website structure, but all photos that Shawn and I upload will strictly be within the blog structure.
I’m also celebrating retirement by changing some of my photo equipment. I will now be using a Nikon D7000 and a Tamron 70-300 image stabilized zoom lens as my everyday equipment. On occasion I will use my Nikon Fieldscope with digiscoping setup and Nikon P4 point and shoot on my tripod.
I wanted to get out from under having to use a tripod with a heavy non-image stabilized zoom and I wanted to be able to bump up my ISO in low light situations. I hope this gives me a bit more flexibility, and an opportunity to work on my flight shot skills. Please be patient as I learn to use the new equipment. I, no doubt, will make plenty of mistakes for a while.
Just a moment of silence as I put my D80 and Tamron 200-500 into retirement.
Dear Mr. Dilworth,
I came upon your blog while looking for information about birdlife at Corcoran Lagoon. Are you aware of the current drive by dog owners to have S.C. County grant off leash hours on Live Oak beaches- in particular 20th Ave.-26th Ave.? I am working to oppose their efforts. If you would like to learn more about the issue, send me an email.
