Nibble University

Jun 6, 2009
Nibble University moved to a new server for the third time since it began in 1999. Now NU and AKABirdNerd are located at the same server. Along with the move comes a complete makeover and a transition to a blog engine. Even though NU will be using a blog, much of the website will remain on traditional web pages. The information below was found on What’s New, but from now on I will communicate this information as a blog posting with a category of Info.

Primary grades are making a re-appearance to the website. Development of NU has been at a snail’s pace since the year 2000 due to my busy work schedule as a teacher. I hope to step things up a little and add new material on a more regular basis from now on.

The calendar that operates the daily lessons has been re-set. Daily Lessons will not work until September 3.

Summer 2007
Nibble U is in a state of re-organization. The web host that held the NU files was no longer able to support the size of the website. Therefore, I have moved NU to a new web host company. It will take a while to check all the pages (over 6000 of them) and links. Forms and other features that required cooperation with the server will need to be re-configured with new software before they will work properly.

I have decided to remove grade 2 and 3 from NU in order to concentrate on grades 4-6. I may add them back at a later date. There is so much to do, and I’m afraid it will take my retirement from teaching before I’ll have the time to make sweeping changes and additions. So, please be patient as I re-organize the website. Please email me to inform me about any problems. It would be a big help.

I have moved the Bird Nerd part of Nibble University to its own domain – akabirdnerd.com . I will leave a link to it here on Nibble U for your convenience. It was necessary to separate the birding data from NU because the birding photos take up so much hard drive space.

Summer 2006
A neat hangman game has been added to the Recess section (countries of the world). I have started working on Geography Lessons. Grades 3 – 6 have an extensive Landforms unit. It includes flashcards, various puzzles, hangman, study guides and tests. Sixty landform vocabulary words are included for grades 5 – 6. Thirty landform vocabulary words are included for grades 3 – 4. New puzzle software and study guide/test software was purchased to provide greater interactivity.

Spring 2006
Nibble U code is being adjusted to work with Firefox and other new browsers. Firefox had trouble with the date javascripts on NU. I discovered a problem related to the old Y2K issue and hopefully re-coded the pages so Firefox will work OK. Recent tests look good. Email me if you find difficulties. I’m not a big Firefox fan. I would recommend using Safari for MAC and Internet Explorer for PC.

More information added to the Data Bank.

The Nibble University 2001-2002 school term begins on September 1 for the Muslim calendar and September 3 for the Western calendar. Valid dates run to August 31, 2002, though lessons finish around the first week of June. If you enter a date for a back lesson that does not fall between Sept. 1, 2001 and Aug. 31, 2002 or you try to access a lesson before the Nibble University term starts, you will get an undefined error. The Nibble University computer cannot find a lesson that does not exist.
